As homeschool parents we are always looking for ways to learn more about homeschooling. We like to ‘upskill’ and improve what we are doing in our families. And that’s good. School teachers go to in-service courses and ‘teacher-only days’, and when I run a course I see it as an in-service course for homeschoolers.
So, imagine how please I was when I heard about the online conference being planned by the Old Schoolhouse (a well established Christian homeschooling magazine in USA). This is a new thing for the Old Schoolhouse, and it means that anyone, anywhere can attend the conference and hear their favourite speakers.
The Schoolhouse Expo will be held over three days, it will be interactive, and there are speakers, a virtual vendor hall, physical door prizes, and a goodie bag filled with downloads for everyone who attends.
I rather like this idea. I can set aside the three days of the conference, organise the children, plan meals ahead, clear the decks and settle down at home for a conference! Awesome! And you can even download and listen to your sessions — repeatedly. Talk about helpful and useful!
The list of speakers is really long, but I will just mention a couple.
• Diana Waring will be talking about how discovering your child’s learning styles, learning modalities, and learning intellect will help you adapt your teaching strategies and choose curriculum wisely.
• Andrew Pudewa discusses the four core language arts and how to teach each in the proper way.
• Sally Clarkson will be there with her husband and her daughter, all leading sessions.
• Susan Wise Bauer shows you an overall plan for producing good writers.
• Todd Wilson explains how being REAL can be life-changing.
• Amanda Bennett, unit study author, will help you better understand unit studies.
• Sue Patrick provides insight on implementing the Workbox System.
• Mark Hamby will talk about dealing with sibling rivalry, marital conflict, and holding on to the wrong things.
• Heather Laurie discusses special needs homeschooling.
There will also be Q&A sessions with the speakers, a fabulous virtual goodie bag stuffed with freebies, and door prizes, such as a $100 gift certificate to Rainbow Resource Center. The ‘goodie bag’ is fabulous. Click on this button and then look for the text link to the goodie bag and then scroll down the long list of free ebooks that you get. The conference fee is worth it for the goodie bag alone!
And I noticed that there is a money-back guarantee on the Schoolhouse Expo, so you can register with confidence.
